PRODUCT INSIGHT Advantage of Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Generators Wind Turbines from Green Minnesota Energy Hybrid (solar and wind) GT-2K Watt 48Volt Charge Controller with MPPT Permanent-magnet generators have been used in wind turbines for many years. Many small wind turbine manufacturers use direct-drive radial flux permanent-magnet generators. For example, several popular wind turbines operate near 1000 rpm to produce rated (peak) power. Due to complaints of high noise levels excess speeds have been limited, therefore making these types of generators not practical for wind power applications near residential areas. In many circumstances these do not deliver the power levels advertised. This data translates into low production of power on a typical day during the year. The normal ratings giving by most small wind manufactures is 25-28 mph or approximately 12-13ms. Refer to the chart below to get a different perspective of wind turbine requirements. It is imperative to select the proper wind turbine suitable to individual needs and wind conditions. Green Minnesota Energy provides wind turbines for different average wind conditions for your area. This is achieved by providing different blade profiles, different affordable various rpm rated AFPM generators from 460 rpm to 200 rpm and different output voltages for either battery charging or grid tied applications. Low power for longer periods are more useful than high power at shorter periods. All this flexibility is designed into our downwind turbine of 1K to 2.5K watt of real power not peak power. All our testing will be done in co-operation with accredited University and Community College. For effective wind turbine generators, the design philosophy must cover the following criteria: low cost, light weight, low speed, high torque, and variable speed generation. A wind turbine generator must be light to minimize the requirements for the tower structure and reasonable installation cost. Please note that some of the new turbine just introduce, require tower and installation cost that are almost double the cost of the wind turbine. It would be more cost affective to install solar! The generator is easy to manufacture and the design can be scaled up for a larger size without major retooling. AFPM (Axial flux Permanent Magnet): AC generators have air gap surface perpendicular to the rotating axis and the air gap generates magnetic fluxes parallel to the axis. The rotor is in the form of a disc attached with a permanent magnet (Nd-Fe-B). The generator has two rotors on each side of the fixer. The advantage of AFPM generator is that it performs efficient cooling and can be manufactured in slim styles. The number of permanent magnets increases by two rotors on each side of the fixer coil. Therefore, the two sides of the conductor can be used concurrently to allow designing of high-efficiency generators. Also, the two disc-type rotors with permanent magnets play an additional role as fans to ease the exhaustion of heat generated from the coil of the fixer. Therefore, more electric current can pass through limited-capacity wiring Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Motor generator (AFPM) Model GT-1K Summary of the Advantages of AFPM (Axial flux Permanent Magnet) Wind Power Generators ·Small units and improved density per coil volume (Coreless) ·High efficiency with expansive drive range of the generator, improved reliability ·No loss of energy from cogging torque ·Improved ratio of output per unit weight ·Much wider voltage rage capabilities ·No heavy laminate core or stator (coreless) making it lighter ·Improved low rpm capabilities Wind Turbine Features: ·Robust design that is aesthetically pleasing ·Dynamic breaking ·Manual Dynamic break switch ·Manual rotor lock ·Optional pitch control and coning for additional performance improvement ·Various blade profiles, lengths and materials dependant on watts, RPM- selected and average wind-speed conditions in your area to give you optimum KWH performance. ·Quiet Operation Wind Turbines All of our wind turbines share a common design: They are all down wind and they share the same mounting hardware. Wind Turbine Controller for Grid Tie Systems
The GT-2KGT is a 2K watt 3phase AC Wind Turbine Controller for grid-tie systems. This system works in conjunction with the GT-1K5GT. The GT-2KGT includes three main parts: 1. Three Phase rectifier 2. Dump Load for Controlling Wind turbine speed and braking 3. Manual Braking The GT-2KGT converts variable frequency three phase AC voltages from the wind turbine into stable DC voltage and feeds it into the GT-1K5GT grid-tie inverter. At the DC side of the rectifier, there is a 2K Watt resistive load which is connected to a control switch. When this switch receives the external brake signal from GT-2KGT, it will automatically connect the dump-load to the output of the three phase rectifier to consume the excessive power, protecting the whole system. The GT-2KGT has three LED indicators and one manual brake switch. The led indicator marked POWER indicates the working state of the power supply. The led marked BRAKE will indicate various brightness levels related to the amount of power is dissipated on the dump-load. The brighter the led the larger the dump-load. The led marked FAN indicates the working state of the fans on the dump-load. Specifications: ·AC 3 phase line to line voltage (RMS value) 0V-280V which also means the Vdc (output DC voltage) range is about 0V-400V *WARNING* do not exceed 280V AC this will damage the system ·The maximum system power to the controller is 2K watts.
